Champions League: Basel v Liverpool team news

Striker Daniel Sturridge has not made Liverpool's Champions League trip to Basel after failing to recover from a thigh strain in time.

The England international has missed five matches with the problem and while he is edging closer to a return he will not be risked for the Reds' second match in Group B and he was not on the team flight which left Liverpool at lunchtime.

Defender Mamadou Sakho has also not travelled to Switzerland, it is understood.

The France centre-back stormed out of Anfield on Saturday after not being selected for the match-day squad to face Everton at Anfield in the Merseyside derby, although he subsequently issued an apology.
